With a decade of collaboration under their belts, Anthony Van Engelen and Vans Skateboarding have joined forces on a new shoe, dubbed the “AVE 2.0.”

“Vans and I have stayed on track with innovations over three signature shoes and ten years now,” said Van Engelen. “True innovation creates both a high-performance skate shoe and excitement for what’s possible in the future.”

His latest signature model is “designed to handle anything a skater can throw at it,” with a technical knit upper featuring a zonal construction and an adaptable fit. The silhouette features extra stretch at the collar, as well as an open-knit midsole for increased breathability.

The heel, meanwhile, employs a more dense knit and an external TPU cage. Additionally, RapidWeld™ suede vamps (which offer seamless durability with a no-sew build), bottom eye stays and toe boxes form the shoe’s armor.

“I’ve found knit material to be super comfortable, lightweight and breathable,” Van Engelen added. “Combined with suede in the more high-use parts of the shoe, it makes for a great mixture of design and performance.”

Below, the UltimateWaffle™ midsole and outsole merges UltraCush™ cushioning with TPU midfoot support and SickStick™ rubber outsoles to maximize comfort and control while on the board.

“20 years ago, skate shoes just gave the appearance of tech,” Van Engelen added. “Now, we’re in the future, where that technical design extends to the shoe’s performance.”

Notably, the shoe arrives with a small apparel capsule, which includes denim trousers, woven long-sleeves, graphic T-shirts and beanies.

The AVE 2.0 and the apparel line will launch on March 28 via Vans’ webstore. Take a look at the design in the gallery above.
