Nike is continuing its streak of reviving obscure, experimental designs from the mid-2000s with a first look at the highly unusual Nike Ovolo 2.0. Revealed by Nike via its latest SNKRS Verified product preview, the upcoming model re-engineers a seldom-seen sneaker heel originally introduced in 2004.
Slated to arrive exclusively in women’s sizing for the Holiday 2026 season, the Ovolo 2.0 will debut in two bold colorways: a sleek, monochromatic “Black” and a futuristic “Metallic Silver.” The Ovolo 2.0 functions as a striking hybrid, pulling heavy inspiration from the iconic Nike Shox R4. Its sleek leather upper retains much of the R4’s original DNA, most notably via the squared-off tongue and the small perforated section near the tip of the toe.
However, Nike introduces key modern updates to the 2.0 — the lateral Swoosh branding is now seamlessly embossed directly into the premium leather rather than applied as a separate panel, resulting in a cleaner, more streamlined finish.
The biggest update sits underfoot. Instead of recreating the original Ovolo’s heel, Nike has opened up the architecture further, creating more negative space between the raised heel structure and the outsole for a lighter, more exaggerated profile. Glossy sculpted tooling wraps the rear of the shoe, with stacked plates beneath the heel designed to produce some of the springy sensation associated with Shox cushioning without relying on its familiar exposed columns.
