Hailing from New Delhi, Perte D’ego is among the brightest rising fashion talents in India. Over the last several seasons, the artisanal design label has coined a detail-oriented tailoring manifesto that prioritizes expert techniques: hand embroidery, vivid dyeing, virtuoso appliqué and precise cutwork among them. Governed by creative director Utkarsh Mithas, the brand has now put forth its next batch of intricate wares, in a Spring/Summer 2024 collection titled “Postcards From the Pink City.”

The line is galvanized by Jules Verne’s 1872 novel Around The World in 80 Days, with an abundance of playful motifs and artful illustrations that nod to the book’s travel-minded plotline. Hot air balloons are embroidered onto the backs of collared jackets, while sky-high lanterns, oceanic creatures and international flowers become embellishments on short-sleeve button-down shirts. One top hosts an all-over graphic depicting wave-riding surfers, while others employ complex stitching to resemble lush plants. It’s a celebration of Phileas Fogg’s jet-setting agenda.

More often than not, Perte D’ego’s designs go for big statements, but even the label’s loudest pieces can find solace in Mithas’ more subtle formalwear. Beige blazers and straight dress pants let the fashioner’s bold shirting have its undisturbed moment, while a multi-pocketed purple waistcoat instead directs the eyes toward his snug tailoring prowess. Trousers, in many instances, prefer simple lining or quieter decorations, when worn with the imprint’s eye-gluing button-ups. But there’s still plenty of campy pants to quench the eccentric style arbiter’s thirst.

Notably, Perte D’ego does all of its manufacturing in-house, hiring artisans on permanent contracts instead of relying on factories. With an intimate approach to design, the brand notes that many pieces in this collection will require five to six days to be handcrafted upon order.

Perte D’ego’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, “Postcards From the Pink City,” is now available to shop on the brand’s webstore. Take a closer look at the range in the gallery above
