In celebration of the Lunar New Year, Rolls-Royce has announced an exclusive homage to Chinese culture by unveiling its Year of the Dragon Bespoke commissions. The collection is comprised of three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan model, each integrating the dragon’s symbolic properties of power, prosperity and success.

Crafted at the brand’s Goodwood home, these vehicles represent a blend of tradition and modernity, tailored to appeal to a global clientele. The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, a team of skilled artisans, has reimagined the dragon motif to offer a unique, contemporary expression of this iconic symbol, while still honoring its roots.

The artistic centerpiece of each vehicle is a hand-painted dragon on the front passenger panels, brought to life through a meticulous process that spans over two weeks. The artwork utilizes a layered technique to create a three-dimensional effect, achieved by applying multiple hues of red, each meticulously lacquered to perfection.

Interior details further accentuate the theme, with dynamic dragon embroidery on the headrests, comprising 5,449 stitches and taking more than 20 hours to complete. The design is aimed at emphasizing fluidity and movement, as well as the artisans’ commitment to precision and detail.

A first in Rolls-Royce history, the Bespoke Starlight Headliner introduces the dragon motif through 677 fiber-optic “stars,” a design that required over 20 hours of careful placement. This feature, especially in the model destined for Shanghai, incorporates red “stars,” underscoring the significance of the color in Chinese culture. Exterior designs are equally bespoke, with unique colorways and a subtle dragon motif incorporated into the coachline, symbolizing the East and the rising sun.

Sharing his thoughts on the cars, Jonathan Simms, Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce, shared “These Bespoke creations, inspired by the Year of the Dragon in 2024, celebrate the international reach and influence of Chinese culture, which transcends national boundaries. Hence, these magnificent motor cars are destined for clients based across three continents. These creations are both a powerful expression of our respect for Chinese culture, and a contemporary, minimalist statement in line with trends we see among luxury consumers worldwide.”
