Missoni FW24 Is a Kaleidoscope of Geometric Stripes
Creative director Filippo Grazioli utilized varying straight lines to make traditional masculine and feminine style tropes appear modern.

The key to Missoni’s Fall/Winter 2024 manifesto is stripes — and lots of them. On the brand’s runway, the straightforward pattern became much more than simply that, “representing a new beginning” in some ensembles and “intertwining to create a drawing” in others. The stripes are supposed “to be respected, but also to be broken,” the brand wrote of its sartorial hero on Instagram. Here, creative director Filippo Grazioli’s linear mood board —streamlined and tethered at once — bred an expansive lineup of colorful, geometric statement pieces.
The Italian fashion house reinterpreted the signature motif “through a freedom of shapes and movement,” with a bevy of silhouettes that alternated between masculine and feminine tropes. Strong shoulders complemented draping textiles on lapel-laden overcoats; dresses covered the entire chest with horizontal lines, and fur-traced coats prioritized structure, moving down the runway with a luxurious stiffness. On an earthy palette of blue, red green and brown, Missoni’s lineate concept birthed a legion of large-and-in-charge pieces.
In contrast to the rigorous stripes’ sharp effect, the line’s bubbling knitwear creations were kept soft. Wrapped sweaters bubbled around models’ necks to conceal their top halves, letting their multi-colored, textural facades do all the talking. Knits also took over many dresses and skirts, ricocheting down the runway in step. With this balance, Missoni kept the focus on its fashion’s relationship with the human body, benefitting from models’ strides in showcasing its penchant for artistry.
