Levi’s “Made in Japan” line is lauded for its clever usage of selvedge denim. The textile is sourced from the renowned Hiroshima-based Kaihara Denim Mill, known for its vintage shuttle looms and its unique rope-dyeing techniques responsible for the sub-label’s fan-favorite shades of indigo. Now, Levi’s has revitalized some of its most classic fits with the storied fabric, under its “Made in Japan” banner for Spring/Summer 2024.

“With our bespoke Japanese denim as the foundation, the Spring/Summer 2024 ‘Made in Japan’ collection is brought to life with colored embroidery and a unique approach to patch and repair,” said Paul O’Neill, Levi’s design director. “Featuring a range of simple as well as intricate finishes, the collection builds on Japanese craftsmanship to offer elevated pieces with a modern edge.”

This season’s notable bottoms include the 1980s 501 jeans, the 505 Regular Fit, the 511, the 512 and the 502 fits. Among them, the flagship 501 model is offered with either an “Atlas” patch that resembles a map of the Earth or with a series of minuscule stitches down the leg, and the 505 Regular Fit jeans come with embroidered tonal patches.

The “Made in Japan” Classic Type II and III jackets, meanwhile, come in a dark, moody wash. The former silhouette features distinct embroidery, while the latter design is made for versatile styling. Across the range, all pieces host the “Made in Japan” backpatch, an inner flag-inspired label and a hidden indigo tab.

Levi’s Spring/Summer 2024 “Made in Japan” collection is now available to shop online and in select stores. Take a closer look at the line in the gallery above.
