The Weeknd is launching an extraordinary collaboration with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, featuring an exclusive vinyl design for his upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow.
This special edition vinyl highlights a rarely-seen sketch created by Basquiat at just 17 years old. The artwork embodies the raw, rebellious energy that defined Basquiat’s career and resonates with The Weeknd’s House of Balloons era.
The striking design features a figure clutching a balloon, floating above a group of people and unfinished buildings. The imagery, described as “working-class heroes” set against “unfinished buildings,” captures the tension between aspiration and societal limitations. The phrase “upon leaving the ‘norm’” hovers above the scene, emphasizing themes of defiance and liberation – ideals reflected in both The Weeknd’s music and Basquiat’s artistic legacy.
The Hurry Up Tomorrow collector’s edition vinyl will be available starting January 24, 2025 at the Official XO Store’s webstore.
