Sony Reportedly Developing New Portable Handheld Console for PlayStation 5 Games
A possible rival for the Nintendo Switch.
A new portable handheld console is reportedly in the works from Sony, possibly posing as a rival for the Nintendo Switch.
A report from Bloomberg claims that the tech giant is looking to create a portable console that can play PlayStation 5 games. The gaming system builds on the already-released PlayStation Portal, Sony’s take on the Steam Deck that allows gamers to play PS5 games on a handheld device by streaming them over the internet. However, gamers should expect to wait several more years for a potential release in addition to the possibility of Sony pulling the product altogether.
Bloomberg adds that a handheld gaming console for PS5 games could expand Sony’s reach and appeal as it has begun to push mobile gaming, PC gaming and live-service titles. A new portable system could also parry the Xbox handheld console that Microsoft is also currently developing.
Sony previously released the portable PS Vita and PlayStation Portable consoles to little success in the past; both were ultimately discontinued.
