J. Cole has taken to Instagram to announce a new project. The artist calls it a new “limited audio series” titled Inevitable, featuring unreleased music and J. Cole’s personal anecdotes of his career.

Eager fans have taken to the comment section wondering if this means a new album is on its way, as J. Cole explains that fans will be able to hear some of his forgotten past tracks. Inevitable is hosted by J. Cole himself, alongside his manager Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad and long-time collaborator Scott Lazer. J. Cole promises that the audio series will be a “raw and reflective” and include “an unfiltered voyage through [J. Cole's] life, career and personal evolution.” In addition to revealing unreleased songs, Cole will be recounting “his journey from his early days as a young, aspiring rapper to finally seeing his dreams become a reality, despite the many hurdles and pitfalls he faces along the way.”

Alongside the trailer for the series, J. Cole writes in the caption, explaining how the audio series came together, “It’s hard to write a caption to describe what this is. I really don’t know what to call it. We settled on calling it an ‘audio series’ but to me it plays like a movie in the form of a conversation. First, me and Ib spent mad days talking to Scott, recapping the whole journey up to present day. Front to back. It was new, it was fun, it was emotional and more than anything, it was therapeutic.” He goes on to explain that when Lazer and himself were editing the conversations together, he realized the importance of sharing some of these stories with fans. This podcast-hybrid conversation soon became his next project, “I got so much clarity from it, and I understood more than ever the power of having a dream, the power of fueling that dream with strong vision, the magic that happens when we stay in alignment with God, and the darkness that can come in the times that we don’t. So, if you rocked with me at any point so far on my journey, I hope this will give you even more perspective and fill in a lot of blanks.”

Sharing his first episode of Inevitable season one, Cole wrote that he was initially “hesitant” with sharing the personal details that led to his creative process. Fans interested can listen here.
