HMD Taps 'Venom' in Upcoming Customizable Fusion Smartphone

In a groundbreaking collaboration, HMD Global has unveiled the Fusion smartphone, a device that embodies the concept of symbiosis, much like the iconic Marvel antihero, Venom. This innovative smartphone allows users to merge their devices with interchangeable “Smart Outfits,” transforming its functionality and appearance in real time.
To celebrate the U.S. release of Venom: The Last Dance, HMD has crafted three exclusive Smart Outfits, showcased at a pop-up event on October 20 and set to appear on the red carpet for the film’s premiere on October 21. These outfits feature Venom’s dark aesthetic and include custom notification sounds and visuals inspired by the movie, such as the phrase “We are Venom” when the device boots up. Each exclusive outfit integrates 160 electromagnetic arrays controlling a Venom-like liquid – ferrofluid – in a glass chamber that attaches to the Fusion via six pins. When the outfit is activated, it alters the phone’s physical appearance and software, echoing the bond between Venom and Eddie Brock.
The HMD Fusion smartphone is now available for pre-order on the HMD webstore, with official Venom-themed wallpapers available for download. While the limited-edition Venom outfits will not be available for purchase, consumers can expect to see various Smart Outfits launching in the coming months, with more advanced versions set to arrive in 2025.
