Over the past few years, The xx’s members have been staying busy with their respective solo projects. Jamie xx was the first to venture out on his own with 2015’s In Color, while Oliver Sim released his own LP, Hideous Bastard early last year. And Romy dropped Mid Air in August 2023 after years of collaborating with electronic music heavyweights such as Fred again..

All the while, fans have been awaiting the follow-up to The xx’s last album as a group and their third overall full-length project, 2017’s I See You.

Romy has now shared that she’s actually been hitting the studio with Jamie and Oliver as of late.

“I think Oliver and Jamie and I have all tried new things and learned a lot from different projects and I think that’s quite healthy to be like, ‘What have you learned? What should we do now?,’” the artist told NME at the Beyond The Valley festival in Australia. “And I think it’s quite wide open and it’s exciting to be starting again in a way. But we’ve started making some music and I’m really excited about it.”

She went on to note that while fans will still be able to tell it’s The xx, the trio is looking forward to their sound on the forthcoming LP “feeling fresh.”
