Two weeks after releasing the controversial “J Christ,” Lil Nas X has shared another song. This one is called “Where Do We Go Now?” and was described by the singer himself as “music to match with your depression.”

The single also serves as part of the soundtrack to Nas X’s forthcoming HBO documentary film, Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero. The doc will dive into the singer’s rise to fame, as well as his personal life and relationships with his family. It’ll also hold a lens up to his sexuality and the growth and freedom he’s felt since coming out.

In the song, Nas X appears to be talking about his mental health and the forces preventing him from moving onward and upward.

“This door in my home / Ain’t ever gon’ let me grow,” he sings. “She won’t close now, honestly / She’s slowin’ me down and it seems.”

“Where Do We Go Now?” and “J Christ” mark his first new solo music in over two years. In 2021, Nas X released his debut album, Montero.

Stream Lil Nas X’s new single “Where Do We Go Now?.” HBO’s Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero premieres tomorrow, January 27.
