LEGO 'Star Wars' Reveals Five Sets for Its 25th Anniversary Celebration
Highlighted by the inclusion of special bonus minifigures such as the first-ever LEGO Darth Malak and ARC Trooper Fives.
It’s been 25 years since the hit partnership between LEGO and Star Wars made its market debut. Since then, hundreds of sets and thousands of minifigures have been created under the LEGO Star Wars theme. In celebration of this, LEGO is commemorating the line’s 25th anniversary with a range of special sets.
Kicking things off, a new buildable R2-D2 set recreates the beloved droid with a total of 1,050 pieces that results in an R2-D2 that measures over 9 inches tall. A special printed plaque has been prepared alongside a minifigure version of R2-D2, which is joined by a special 25th anniversary figure of a character never-before-seen in LEGO — Darth Malak. From there, the Boarding the Tantive IV set recreates the iconic hallway scene where Darth Vader chokes Captain Antilles, both of which are included in minifigure form alongside two Stormtroopers and two Rebel Fleet Troopers. Rounding out the build, another exclusive figure has been created — ARC Trooper Fives — who appears on a 25th anniversary-branded stand that is also included with the aforementioned R2-D2 set.
Elsewhere in the lineup, three mid-scale buildable models recreate legendary Star Wars ships. First, General Grevious’ Invisible Hand appears in LEGO form for the first time with a build that includes 557 pieces and a special anniversary tile and labeled display tile — elements present with each of the three mid-scale builds. Next, the Tantive IV returns in LEGO with a slick design that measures just over 12 inches long. The all-too-familiar Millennium Falcon completes the roster with a 921-piece build that features ample detailing.
Release for all five of these LEGO Star Wars sets takes place on March 1. However, each build is now available for pre-order via LEGO with prices ranging from $50 USD for the Invisible Hand to $100 USD for the R2-D2.
