Arc’teryx’s Alpha SV – the very first jacket created by the brand – has been updated to make it the most durable version of the jacket since its launch 25 years ago. The now iconic Alpha SV debuted in 1998 and over the past two-and-a-half decades the Vancouver-based brand has made consistent, incremental changes to improve and perfect its performance.

The latest version of the Alpha SV is the result of yearslong research into material sciences and collaborative exploration with partners like Gore (maker of Gore-Tex). It has been redesigned with a new N100D face fabric and features a breathable triple-layered Gore-Tex Pro 2.0 construction made from 100% post-consumer waste. In further consideration of its impact on the planet, 2024’s Alpha SV range has been colored using an earth-friendly technique known as dope dying – a process that reduces waste and water usage by dying a pre-set amount of fabric in advance. It also weighs half what 1998’s original did – 230 grams lighter to be precise, or, the weight of an ice pick – and the tape used to keep seal its seams is the thinnest it’s ever been, keeping the wearer dry whilst reducing overall bulk. And, according to the brand, the latest Alpha SV design also makes it the most repairable, further extending the life of your investment.

Whilst in recent years it has become as easy to spot an Arc’teryx jacket on the streets of major cities as it is in the mountain ranges of the Pacific Northwest, the brand has always been an outdoors outfitter first and foremost. Its latest Alpha SV continues its pursuit of creating pieces of clothing that serve as tools for its athletes, as well as being worthy investments for style conscious folk who want a jacket that looks good and is guaranteed to last.

Released in a variety of new colors for both men and women, the updated Alpha SV is available now via Arc’teryx stores and online priced at $900 USD / £800 GBP.
