YouTube Debuts Music Discovery Feed That Looks Strikingly Similar to TikTok
The vertical feed is called ‘Samples’ and available globally now.

YouTube has seemingly taken inspiration from TikTok with its new vertical video feed. Called Samples, the feature presents itself as a tab where users can simply swipe to discover new tracks sourced directly from the YouTube Music library.
YouTube says Samples offers an assortment of cuts from emerging artists mixed with the storied discographies of legacy artists. T. Jay Fowler, YouTube Music’s Director of Product Management, describes Samples as a “seamless feed of short form video segments to get you to your new favorite music,” where “each immersive clip offers a glimpse into the artist, the video, and the feel of the song.”
One can assume YouTube will employ its own AI-powered system to curate music according to a user’s preferred genres and tastes, though the platform hasn’t revealed any details on the algorithm behind Samples.
From the feature’s tab, users can share songs directly with friends or add it to a collection of content. They’ll also have the option to pull up the whole video or head to the album from where the song is sourced.
Samples has already launched globally, accessible via the YouTube Music app.
