Disney Reveals 'Loki' Season 2 Cost $141.3 Million USD

Disney is banking on the success of Loki Season 2 to revive the struggling Marvel Studios division.
In a recent article, Forbes has revealed that Disney spent $141.3 million USD (£110.6 million GBP) on the pre-production and filming of the upcoming season of Loki. Failure is simply not an option as Disney hopes to reinvigorate the subsidiary and interest in MCU series. Not a single expense was spared for the second season, costing more in pre-production and filming than box office Marvel films like Doctor Strange (£102.7 million GBP), Thor 2: The Dark World (£99.4 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy (£91.1 million GBP).
The Tom Hiddleston-led series is set to hit the Disney+ platform in October as he continues as the eponymous Asgardian god of mischief. Owen Wilson returns with newcomer Ke Huy Quan. This year, Marvel has seen disappointing numbers from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, both of which did not hit their expected marks and not performing as successfully as the studio thought they would. With Secret Invasion, Disney had high hopes for the series, however fans were put off by the gaping plot holes, poor CGI and serious tone, earning the series a 7% on Rotten Tomatoes. Disney+ has not profited since its launch in 2019 and has made an operating loss of $695 million USD in Q1 of 2023. With Loki‘s popularity, it is safe to say that Disney is deeply hinging on its success.
