COSTS says that the pair is inspired by lychee vines, “a symbol of growth, an ode to the vibrancy of life.” Colorways found throughout the pair, delivered in layers of premium suede include olive green, earthy brown and beige. The shoe also features a base layer of cotton hemp revealed at the side, representing Cantonese fabrics and meant to provide a “Chinese Zen atmosphere,” according to COSTS.
Symbolic details found throughout the pair include The olive-green vines representing the partnership between COSTS and ASICS, while brown is reminiscent of their first collaborative project, the GT-COOL XPRESS “LOTUS POND”, implying a full circle moment.
Lychee vine prints and themes are also carried into the iconic ASICS stripes, split tongue, shoelaces and sockliner, with each adding distinctive detail meant to illustrate the entanglement of the plant and the vigorous force of life. Other details include embroidered “COSTS” and “ASICS” branding at the heel as well as the Chinese character for “extend” in green threading.
Retail for the China-exclusive pair has yet to be announced, however, a release date has been set for August 19 via COSTS’ official site and stores, to be followed by a release at select ASICS retailers on August 25.
