Vault By Vans Covers Kicks In Duct Tape to Honor 1980s Skate Culture
Battered and bruised to replicate a worn-out look.
Following its collaboration with Taiwan’s INVINCIBLE, the experimental Vault by Vans sub-label prepares to launch its latest in-line offering. Vault by Vans has become synonymous with unique releases that differ from the traditional, giving its new “Lux Duct” pack a distressed treatment.
Vans skate shoes are a staple on and off the board, holding firmly over intense use. While still prevalent today, Vans dominated ramps worldwide in the 1980s. During this time, skaters would repair their torn shoes with duct tape to avoid a fresh pair. Vault By Vans replicates this worn-out look across its duct tape pack, covering the Slip-On and Half-Cab with protective seals.
The Vans Slip-On is given luxurious crocodile leather uppers in classic checkered print, battered and bruised for a pre-skated feel. Glossy duct tape conceals the collars and toe boxes, complete with Vans Ultracush insoles to provide comfort while in action.
The Vans Half-Cab arrives in black and white colorways, boasting embossed reptile patterns, dirtied accents, and binding tape to cover possible openings. Branded badges enhance the tongues and throats stacked atop blacked-out rubber outsoles.
Take a closer look at the Vault By Vans “Lux Duct” pack in the gallery above. It will release via Vans and select retailers on July 19.
