Artist Noel Mercado Releases Handcrafted "Earth Tones" Clothing Collection
A concise collection of upcycled garments and accessories, all of which the artist created entirely by hand.
Fresh off of his One and the Same exhibition and collaboration with USM Modular Furniture and his custom “The Anthem” chair, artist Noel Mercado is celebrating the launch of his new webstore with an “Earth Tones” clothing collection. Made up of handcrafted, upcycled garments, “Earth Tones” puts Mercado’ skill at repurposing, reworking and re-crafting on full display, using an entirely different medium from the lion’s share of his past projects.”Everything has been made with vintage, scrap, repurposed materials all tied to the idea of Earth,” Mercado said in an Instagram post.
“Earth” is a vintage Belgian army shirt with pockets made fron painter’s tarp, chainstitched details and a leather “8” taken directly from a vintage 8-Ball jacket. “Where theres smoke theres fire” is a zip-up Carhartt corduroy shacket with a checkered pattern made from Carhartt coat scraps and dressed with a handmade Marlboro Man canvas patch plus a special pendant.
“3 Bathers” is a cropped, short-sleeve button-up shirt with a graphic of Henri Matisse’s Le Luxe printed on top of canvas plus scrap fabric pockets and trim. “Moon over the leaves (Money doesn’t grow on trees)” is a pair of Realtree camo pants with embroidered white vinyl circles plus a veg tanned leather backtag, and “Take me with” is an army duffle with everything from a New York Yankees logo taken from a vintage jersey to a Carhartt coat pocket and a dice zipper pull.
The pieces are available on Noel Mercado’s webstore now, with prices ranging from $150-$250 USD.
