The 2023 Emmy Awards Have Been Postponed
With no exact rescheduled airdate.
While the 2023 Emmy Awards were scheduled to take place on September 18, the 75th annual ceremony has been postponed due to Hollywood’s ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.
According to reports from Variety, the show’s vendors “[were] told that the ceremony will not air on September 18 — the first time that there has been official word that the date has been pushed.” This marks the first time the show has been postponed since 2001.
There is currently no official updated date for the Primetime Awards show to air, but Variety reports that Fox is vying for a potential January airdate, while The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is aiming for a sooner one in November – though it remains unclear whether the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes will be resolved by then. Via Deadline, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences intends to have an official decision regarding the new airdate sometime in August.
The postponement of the show aligns with the strike regulations of SAG-AFTRA members, as they “cannot be present for film or television premieres, cannot complete interviews when the subject is completed work, and cannot attend film festivals or awards shows or share content related to film and television projects on their social media.” The SAG-AFTRA strike officially began on July 13, just one day after the 2023 Emmy nominees were announced.
