Lena Dunham To Direct Polly Pocket Film Adaptation Starring Lily Collins
Building out the Mattel Cinematic Universe.
Following the massive success of the Barbie movie, Mattel is looking to expand its cinematic universe. The company has been reported to have plans for films based on several of its other toy franchises.
Next up on the roster is Polly Pocket, Mattel Films producer Robbie Brenner confirmed to Variety. Brenner reported that the adaptation already has a script that has been submitted to the studio, though specific plot details are still under wraps.
The Polly Pocket film will be directed by Lena Dunham, best known for creating HBO’s Girls, and star actress Lily Collins, who plays the titular character of the Netflix original, Emily in Paris.
“First of all, they are two of my favorite ladies ever,” Brenner said of the duo. “It’s been an amazing collaboration. Lena is so collaborative and rolls up her sleeves and really likes to roll around in notes and listen. She’s incredible.”
“Lily is so smart and so specific and so productorial,” he continued. “It’s just been an incredible collaboration, so we are thrilled about it. Hopefully, we’ll be making that at some point in the future.”
Polly Pocket is a miniature plastic doll line that first made its debut in 1983. Similar to Barbie, the franchise has received its own animated adaptations over the years, spanning four films and a TV series.
