Japanese label WACKO MARIA is best known for its eye-catching designs that often pull from artists and franchises. For Spring/Summer 2023 this has included everyone from Bob Marley to Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers as the brand continues to celebrate a wide variety of topics. Now, it looks to one of the most recognizable Japanese media franchises — Ghost in the Shell – for its latest capsule.
First serialized in 1989, the Ghost in the Shell manga paved the way for anime adaptations and a live-action film led by Scarlett Johansson. Its cyberpunk style is paid homage to in this collection as WACKO MARIA lathers its classic rayon Hawaiian shirts with iconic graphics that prominently feature Motoko Kusanagi. In addition to the shirting options, one of the poster graphics appears printed on three crewneck colorways — black, brown and white — to complete the collaborative range.
Release for this Ghost in the Shell x WACKO MARIA capsule is scheduled for June 16 at 11pm EDT via WACKO MARIA and select stockists. The Hawaiian shirts are priced at ¥36,300 JPY (approx. $259 USD) each.
