The American Express x Metalwood Studio Golf Capsule Draws Inspiration From Retro Championship Tickets
The co-branded merchandise is exclusively available on a section of HBX that can be accessed through POAPs.

Presented by American Express

During this year’s golf Championship in Los Angeles, American Express partnered with golf brand Metalwood Studio and Hypebeast to develop and sell a custom capsule exclusively available online via a microsite at HBX. American Express Card Members and guests who visit the brand’s on-site American Express Card Member Lounge (located near the third fairway) can mint the brand’s POAPs (Proof of Attendance Protocols), gaining access to the limited-edition merchandise online (terms apply).

As a rising purveyor of fashion-forward golf wear, Metalwood Studio seamlessly merges street style with the sartorial panache of classic golf silhouettes. The brand is known for elevating retro golf attire with contemporary graphics and designs, subverting its relationship to 1950s Rat Pack-era influences for the modern golf set. The collaboration, born of a shared love for Los Angeles’ burgeoning golf subculture, presents a relaxed crewneck sweatshirt, T-shirt and accessories, including a bucket hat and driver head cover. Since the capsule imagines a cohesive on-course and off-course assemblage, each piece lends itself to effortless mix-and-match styling. Metalwood’s scenic graphics pay homage to the country club experience and sunlit days spent on the driving range; likewise, the blue and white color palette incorporated across the capsule shows love for American Express, including spare pops of red and customized hero graphics adorning select pieces.

Highlighted in the collection is a dark blue crewneck outfitted with ribbed paneling at the collar, cuffs and hem. The front panel’s hero screen-printed graphic depicts the familiar caddie getup: corduroy slacks and traditional golf footwear á la FootJoy. Its lighter counterpart, a light blue T-shirt, adapts this same design on the back panel, with the front showcasing Metalwood lettering and a red “’23” motif stamped at the front. Summer-ready accessories top off the capsule, including a colorblocked bucket hat — featuring a graphic “World Service” motif and tonal piping along the brim — and a screen-printed headcover for drivers. This isn’t American Express’ first foray into fashion or Web3; in fact, AMEX partnered with streetwear king Don C at NBA All-Star. Here, the brand’s optimistic color story complements Metalwood’s street-to-course flair, fittingly curated for guests attending the golf Championship in Los Angeles.

The five American Express POAPs, designed in collaboration with Metalwood Studio and Hypebeast, will only be available for minting in the Card Member Lounge on-site near the third fairway. Card Members and their guests can mint the POAPs starting on the practice rounds and each day of the pro golf tournament in Los Angeles. Available all week long in limited quantities, the capsule will debut on an exclusive section within HBX. Only fans who have minted a POAP in the Card Member Lounge can access the special page on HBX.
