John Caroll Kirby – “Sun Go Down”

John Carroll Kirby prepares to drop his upcoming album Blowout with his new single “Sun Go Down.” Inspired by Hermeto Pascoal’s famous performance of “Música Da Lagoa” as a major influence, the artist shares, “I love the concept of saudade,” adding that for every moment of elation, “there’s a certain sadness embedded in the feeling because we know it will have to come to an end.”

Yussef Dayes x Tom Misch – “Rust”

What Kinda Music collaborators Yussef Dayes and Tom Misch reunite for the former’s newest offering “Rust,” which serves as the second single from his forthcoming debut solo album Black Classical Music. “What is jazz? Where did the word derive from? Birthed in New Orleans, born in the belly of the Mississippi River, rooted in the gumbo pot of the Caribbean, South American culture & African rituals. Continuing a lineage of Miles Davis, Rahssan Roland kirk, Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong ~ music that is forever evolving & limitless in its potential,” Dayes said of the album in a statement. “The groove, it’s feeling, the compositions, the spontaneity, with a love for family, the discipline & dedication in maintaining the very high bar set by the pantheon of Black Classical Musicians. Chasing the rhythm of drums that imitated one’s heartbeat, the melodies for the mind and spirit, the bass for the core. A Regal sound for this body of music.”

Valley – “Have A Good Summer (Without Me)”

Valley inches closer to the release of their upcoming album Lost In Translation with their latest single, “Have A Good Summer (Without Me).” The cut contradicts the traditional summer anthem of fun and replaces it with heartbreak, with Karah James stating, “[T]he summer in our minds is a romanticized version of life. Love and its adventures are heightened with the heat and the water and the sunshine. The blow of losing someone before those precious few months of the year is devastating to say the least. ‘Have A Good Summer (Without Me)’ is loving them so much, you will let them go.”
