Shezad Dawood Taps Priya Ahluwalia to Create Abstract Costumes for Brussels Art Show

In an exhibition dubbed, “Night in the Garden of Love, Inspired by and Featuring Yusef Lateef.”

British-Pakistani artist Shezad Dawood is gearing up to debut his latest art exhibition in Brussels’ WIELS contemporary museum. Dawood will work alongside UK designer Priya Ahluwalia, who will develop costumes made from vintage textiles for the show.

Titled Night in the Garden of Love, Inspired by and Featuring Yusef Lateef, the exhibition will merge performance art with textile paint, sculptural costumes, and virtual reality for a boundary-breaking experience.

The London-based designer delved deeply into Dawood fabric records, traveling through time to create otherworldly ensembles that will dress the show’s main act, “The Mutant.” Dawood’s extensive cloth experience can be felt at every corner, reflecting his family’s deep connections to design and merchandising.

Night in the Garden of Love, Inspired by and Featuring Yusef Lateef is based on a fictional conversation between Shezad Dawood and late jazz musician Yusef Lateef. Looking to Lateef’s 1988 sci-fi novella “Night in the Garden of Love,” the showcase explores dystopian realities through artistic realms.

Take a closer look at Shezad Dawood and Priya Ahluwalia creations above.
