For its latest footwear collaboration, NEPENTHES‘ New York-based label Engineered Garments has teamed up with Los Angeles heritage footwear brand K-Swiss. The unisex footwear collection is centered around a modernized version of K-Swiss’ Classic GT model, originally introduced back in 1966, marked by the utilitarian, rugged feel of Engineered Garments and the sophisticated minimalist design of K-Swiss.

“I saw a brown leather K-Swiss shoe at that time and I remember that it looked so great,” said Daiki Suzuki. For the collaboration, Suzuki landed on a reimagining of the Classic GT, as it reminded him most of what he liked and grew up with in the ’80s.

Engineered Garments Founder and Creative Director Daiki Suzuki notes that he had a keen interest in K-Swiss from when he first saw the brand while working at a store in Tokyo back in the ’80s. Suzuki also shared that the brown Classic GT is an homage to his favorite from the ’80s. Offered in three colorways, the reimaged cuts and textures of the Engineered Garments x K-Swiss Classic GT expresses the Japanese brand’s penchant for asymmetry. The exploration of asymmetry is most notable in the mix of D-rings and the usage of leather and suede in the construction of the uppers.

“For K-Swiss it was an honor to collaborate with Engineered Garments – a brand that, just as ours, seeks to elevate designs, posing the question of how to redefine a Classic,” sais Senior Designer of Collaborations, Jon Tang. “This collaboration speaks to our identity, to push the limits of what elevated Classics can be.”

Priced at $115 USD, the Engineered Garments x K-Swiss Classic GT collection will be available via K-Swiss, NEPENTHES New York, and at select retailers May 12. NEPENTHES New York will also be holding a release party (May 12, 7-9 p.m. EDT) to preview the collaboration.
