Raf Simons Anthologizes His Runway Shows on SS23 "Tour Cardigan"
As the brand sets to close after this season, Simons takes one last moment to remember the years gone by — including his LFW Printworks debut.
Raf Simons‘ postponed London Fashion Week debut was a knockout farewell to the designer’s eponymous label, and now the Belgian icon is honoring every show since he began in 1995 with the “Tour Cardigan.”
Coming in black, this mid-weight knitted essential is adorned with plenty of symbolic branding on the front and back. Notably, we find “PRINTWORKS” jumping across the chest of the piece — splitting thanks to the v-neck silhouette — nodding to Simons’ runway show that took place in the now-closed institutional London music venue.
Beneath, we find Raf Simons’ moniker alongside the season of the runway show (Spring/Summer 2023) and Printworks’ postcode, again intersected by the shape of the piece, however this time it’s thanks to buttons running down the central placket.
On the rear, we get a better look at how the drop shoulders and elongated rib-cuff sleeves create a slouchy, relaxed shape, but not before we attempt to read off Simons’ impressive anthology of shows. Headlining the list is the designer’s name once again, before detailing “London” and the date of the SS23 show. Beyond that, we find references to his shows, from his January 1995 debut in Milan to his seminal “Riot! Riot! Riot!” showcase.
Take a look at the Raf Simons “Tour Cardigan” above, and pick it up from retailers such as Dover Street Market London now for £706, or roughly $888 USD.
In other news, Peter Do has been appointed as the Creative Director of Helmut Lang.
