Yamaha Crafts a Saxophone-Inspired Hand Gripper
A joint project between Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co.

After introducing two computer mice inspired by motorbike engines and wind instruments, Yamaha returns with its latest “Two Yamahas, One Passion” project, joining the design divisions of Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co. This time around, the team creates a Gripper, traditionally used to improve grip strength, that integrates the metallic buttons from a saxophone.
Instead of two uniform handles, one side of the Gripper is fitted in sculpted wood and a thumb pad while the other side is finished with four articulated buttons for each finger. While offering a novel experience, the looped tubes on the hinge offer resistance for strength training as the device is originally intended. Three colorways are introduced featuring silver, brass, and matte black hardware with complimentary woodwork.
“Yamaha believes in designs that make you want to touch them every day, whilst turning utilitarian, plain workout tools into objects with an aesthetic beauty,” writes Yamaha of the project.
So far, the hand gripper remains a concept with a public release yet to be announced.
