Karu Research SS23 Focuses on the Beauty of Intentional Imperfections
With rich hand-quilted fabrics and embroideries.
Since starting his label in 2020 while a student at the University of Pennsylvania, Karti Kumra’s Karu Research has remained focused on bringing Indian culture to the world. From intricately designed details to multicolored fabrics, the collections thus far have been exceptionally warm. Now the brand turned its attention to intentional imperfections for its latest Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
Titled “Conscious Chaos,” Kumra took a special look at the idea of imperfections, but specifically, the beauty that resides within them. By channeling the varied design flaws and weird quirks that occur with clothes, the collection rests in uniqueness. As such, no two garments are the same in the latest collection – further illustrating the brand’s handcrafted techniques. Filling the collection is a selection of knitwear, relaxed pants, vests, shirts and more that channel the rich styling in Indian culture.
Alongside the harmonious blend of color, what makes the collection piece stand out are the hand-quilted fabrics, hand embroideries from Bengal and patchwork silk block prints. A highlight of the collection is a relaxed quilted coordinating set with hues of sunkissed orange, red clay, soft violet and lush green.
