Daniel W. Fletcher Invites You to the Picnic for SS23
Dropping a gingham capsule.
Daniel W. Fletcher is the darling of UK fashion, capturing a nostalgia for youth and blending it with British sensibilities and traditions. For example, his Spring/Summer 2023 collection explored the swinging sixties, taking us down the backstreets of Soho, into the punk hallmarks of Chelsea, all via the tailoring hub of Savile Row. And now, Fletcher invites us to the picnic with his SS23 gingham drop.
Presenting an oversized pocket short-sleeve shirt, the “Drees” jacket and “Scout” shorts, the drop comes as a mix-and-match capsule that works with the wider collection. However, the garments also work perfectly together for pattern-on-pattern mania.
Either way, we find tailoring cues applied to each of the three pieces. For the shirt, red gingham crafts a boxy silhouette, while blue gingham cuts through the middle on the concealed-button placket, collar, and buttoned pocket, working as both a casual and formal piece of attire depending on the bottoms. If they happen to be the “Scout” shorts, you’ll complete the look with a high-rise fit and lashings of schoolboy cues.
As for the “Drees” jacket, Daniel W. Fletcher presents House signatures like the leather branded jacron on the rear of the piece, and an overall clean aesthetic punctuated by a high collar, a zip, and two pockets — quintessential for a classic police jacket design.
