Angel Olsen Announces New EP ‘Forever Means,’ Shares First Single “Nothing’s Free”
Dropping via Jagjaguwar on April 14.
Angel Olsen is following last June’s Big Time with a new EP called Forever Means. Slated to drop via Jagjaguwar on April 14, the project is made up of songs recorded during last year’s Big Time album sessions.
Co-produced by Olsen and Jonathan Wilson, the concept of “forever” is a recurring theme threaded throughout the EP’s four songs.
“Forever is to remain curious, never letting yourself think you’re finished learning or exploring, while trying also to be kind and honest… I was somewhere traveling, stopped for a few days and wandering the city, and I was thinking ‘what does forever really mean?” Olsen mused.
“What are the things I’m seeking in friendship or love, and how can forever be attainable if we’re always changing?’ Maybe the secret to ongoing love is to embrace change as part of love itself.”
Giving fans their first taste of the EP, the indie art pop singer has shared the first track from the EP, a soulful melody called “Nothing’s Free,” which debuted along with a lyric video featuring studio footage.
“It felt really difficult to exclude it from Big Time but it felt more soulful than the direction of that record, it was coming from a different place,” Olsen said of the track. “For me, when I wrote it, I was coming to terms with my identity and sexuality. I was opening up in a new way.”
Angel Olsen’s Forever Means is out on April 14. Stream “Nothing’s Free” everywhere now.
