Nike Dresses the Air Max 1 '87 up in a Medley of Materials
Featuring everything from a corduroy mudguard to a leopard print collar.
While Nike hosted a triumphant run of Air Max 1 releases for its 35th anniversary last year, the celebration of the timeless silhouette is far from over. As the Swoosh’s annual celebration of Air Max Day is just a few weeks out, a steady stream of new — and familiar — color compositions have surfaced on the Air Max 1, including a throwback “Big Bubble” look pulled straight from the ’80s. Adding to the excitement, a new mixed material build of the Air Max 1 ‘87 has hit the net.
Fitting in with next week’s “Great Indoors” launch, the retro sneaker has been prepared in yet another blend of textures. Kicking things off, a light blue corduroy mudguard is joined by a floral textile at the toe, pastel overlays, leopard print collar and a mustard suede heel counter. Black lands on branding elements at the heel and tongue while also dressing the Swooshes. Supporting the presentation, a yellowed midsole with a visible Air unit and black rubber outsole make an appearance. If that’s not enough flavor, an alternate pair of laces with a tiger stripe pattern are included and match the sockliner to complete this offering.
Nike has yet to reveal any release information regarding this mixed material rendition of the Air Max 1 ‘87. It may see a release surrounding Air Max Day later this month via Nike in women’s sizing at a price of $180 USD.
