Original Story: Nike‘s unofficial Air Max Day holiday is just around the corner, and the brand will be celebrating by blessing its fans with silhouettes new and old. For the latter, the Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 “Big Bubble” — a silhouette that was part of the Swoosh’s’ original production run in ‘86 before the Air Max 1 officially debuted ‘87 — is making a return to the spotlight.

As you can infer by its moniker, the key element of this forthcoming retro offering is the Air unit. Unlike the traditional Air Max 1s that you’ll see on the shelves today, this installment features a blown-up, elongated bubble that is designed to bring back the look and feel of its original design. In terms of its palette, the kicks are fashioned with its throwback “Sport Red” motif. Its titular hue ornaments the Swooshes, eyelets, mudguards and Nike branding on the tongues and heels while the overlays that are situated on the heels and quarter panels are done up with a classic lighter gray tone. Mesh toe boxes and the rest of the base is executed in pure white.
An exact release date hasn’t been announced just yet, but you can likely find these launching via Nike and select retailers in the coming weeks leading up to Air Max Day.
