A Ma Maniére, Jordan Brand and Nike have been working together since 2019, and one of their earliest initiatives was “Hand Wash Cold,” a project inspired by care, community and cultural wisdom that was centered around two iterations of the Air Force 1. Now, four years and several collaborations later, we’ve gotten a look at an unreleased Air Jordan 1 “Hand Wash Cold” sample courtesy of @ballintwn3.
The “Hand Wash Cold” sample may have been an early iteration of 2021’s A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 1 collaboration, an unexplored concept or simply a style made for the AMM inner circle, but it’s never before seen the light of day. It features a simple-yet-elegant white and black color scheme with a smooth white leather base and pebbled black leather accents on the Swoosh and collar. Quilted satin lines the collar, while the collar flaps are not stiched down to the upper like they are on general release pairs. AMM’s Air Jordan 1 that did release had a similar un-stitched build and writing on the inside of the collar flaps, indicating that this pair may feature a hidden message as well.
Other unique details include a “Maniére” logo hit on the back, an embroidered ball-and-wings graphic sans Air Jordan branding on the lateral collar flap, and last, but certainly not least, washing “instructions” on the heel. Artificially-aged midsoles and black outsoles round off the look.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 1 “Hand Wash Cold” to see a retail release, but do enjoy the photos above and check out A Ma Maniére founder James Whitner’s throwback installment of Sole Mates, in which he discusses the Social Status x Nike Dunk.
