Microsoft to Launch AI-Enhanced Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6
Alongside other updates like an NFC reader and a wider field-of-view webcam enhanced with Windows Studio Effects.
Microsoft is set to launch its latest iterations of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop series in 2024 — with the upcoming models reported to be getting both design overhauls and next-gen AI capability integrations.
Despite the adjustment to the departure of the Surface team lead Panos Panay, Microsoft’s commitment to the Surface line remains unwavering. The new models are expected to revitalize the brand, much like the updates seen in the Surface Hub, Surface Laptop Studio and other lines in 2023. However, unlike the minor upgrades of the past, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 promise substantial enhancements.
Both models will be available with Intel 14th-Gen and Qualcomm X Series chips, incorporating cutting-edge neural processing units (NPU) for enhanced AI performance. The Arm variants, powered by a custom version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series chips, are particularly noteworthy. Dubbed “CADMUS” PCs internally, they are designed to synergize with the upcoming “Hudson Valley” release of Windows, focusing on next-gen AI experiences.
The Surface Laptop 6 is set to receive its first major design update as well — featuring thinner bezels, rounded display corners and an expanded port selection including USB-C and USB-A ports. The laptop will come in two sizes, with the smaller model sporting a slightly larger 13.8-inch display. A highlight is the inclusion of a haptic touchpad and a dedicated Copilot button for quick access to Windows Copilot.
As for the Surface Pro 10, while not undergoing as drastic a change as the Laptop 6, it will see significant improvements in its display technology, with enhanced brightness, HDR support and anti-reflective coating. Microsoft is also considering a lower-resolution display for its lower-tier models. Additionally, the new model will feature an NFC reader, a wider field-of-view webcam enhanced with Windows Studio Effects and possibly new color options. At the time of writing, pricing for these models is yet to be announced.
