The final week of the year is rarely one for bombshell fashion news — even an ever-churning machine like the fashion industry slows its pace a little bit between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve — and this week was no exception. However, despite a pointed lack of attention-grabbing headlines, there was still plenty for keen-nosed fashion fiends to sniff out.

Highlights include some of the “stealth wealth” ‘fits from Succession being auctioned off, Jennie of BLACKPINK fame announcing the launch of ODD ATELIER, her own fashion label, Lil Uzi Vert announcing that they’d begin designing women’s clothing after “retiring” from music and Harry Rosen, the founder of the eponymous menswear label, dying at 92. Besides those news bits, there was a nice morsel for fans of high-end Americana, with visvim revealing its SS24 collection.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top fashion stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

Succession‘s Signature “Stealth Wealth” Style Hits the Auction Block

HBO’s Succession and the fictional, ultra-wealthy Roy family that starred in it were beacons of “stealth wealth,” one of 2023’s biggest fashion buzzwords. While the jury’s still out on if “stealth wealth” was an actual sartorial movement or just a zeitgeist-defining term — ultra-wealthy individuals who want to show their means more subtly have long worn subtle garments from brands like Loro Piana and Zegna, and their high price points keep them from full mainstream adoption — some of the Roys’ clothing from the show is now up for auction. A prop auction from Succession hosted by Heritage Auctions features the Roys’ famous suits plus gear from Prada Lanvin, Saint Laurent and more.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie Starts Her Own Brand

Alright, alright: we’re bending the rules a little bit on this one as K-pop superstar Jennie of BLACKPINK fame announced the launch of her brand, ODD ATELIER, on December 24. With the news landing right before Christmas, however, most of the fashion establishment didn’t pick it up until this past week. Jennie founded the company in November but officially announced it via a post on her Instagram Stories, and though little is known about the brand or its garments (outside a logo-equipped black hoodie) Jennie’s star power has already propelled it to more than a million followers. We’ll likely be seeing plenty of ODD ATELIER in 2024, so stay tuned.

Lil Uzi Vert, Womenswear Designer

Lil Uzi Vert has always marched to the beat of their own drum, and after announcing their intentions to retire from music to “[live] a normal life” they’ve revealed their next move. After Luv Is Rage 3, Uzi’s self-proclaimed “last album” drops, they’ll be working on creating women’s clothing. Uzi went as far as telling TMZ that they’ve even begin building a home office for the new company, but further details are scarce.

Bidding Farewell to a Canadian Fashion Legend

Harry Rosen redefined luxury retail in Canada with the line of stores that still bears his name, introducing some Italy’s finest brands (think Armani and Zegna) to the Canadian market, as well as strengthening the country’s retail ties with American heavy-hitters like BOSS and Polo Ralph Lauren. Rosen died at 92 on Christmas Eve, and his death was announced after the holiday. “It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our founder and visionary Harry Rosen,” said his company in a statement. “Starting with a $500 loan and a dream, Harry willed our business into existence one client at a time. His passion for menswear and fashion was contagious; his ability to teach and inspire was unparalleled. The team he built and the values he instilled have helped our business span across the country, three generations, and nearly 70 years. Words simply can’t summarize the impact he had on all of us. Rest in Style.”

visvim Shares Clean, Crisp SS24 Collection

Looking ahead to the conclusion of winter and the start of warmer temperatures, visvim unveiled its SS24 “Dissertation on Living In Harmony” collection earlier this week. Offering clean and crisp Americana-influenced wardrobe essentials, the collection is rife with denim, fatigue jackets, short-sleeved button-ups and light tailoring, referencing both coastal living and military wear. It’ll touch down on January 13, but you can flip through the lookbook and pick out your favorite pieces now.
