Maharishi Unveils Lineup of M.A.L.I.C.E. Bags
Bringing the modular “ALICE” carrying system, developed by the U.S. Army, “into contemporary civilian domain.”
Hardy Blechman’s Maharishi is closing out its 30th anniversary year with one more cold-weather capsule. Complete with a bevy of industrial-style bags and small accessories, Maharishi continues to evolve its functional approach to its “Pacifist Military Design” ethos while also paying homage to the design language of the “ALICE” US Military carrying systems from the 1970s.
“The ALICE system dates back to the mid-70s – a harness-based design which allows for weight to be distributed evenly across a soldier’s shoulders, waist and hips. These carrying systems served the U.S. Military for over 20 years before the first round of modifications,” Maharishi explained in an Instagram caption. Maharishi reworked the original Military silhouettes with updated fabrication and utility features.
Lightweight and durable, the MALICE bags are crafted from water-repellent lightweight Flight Nylon, inspired by that of classic MA-1 flight jackets. Pocketing is strategic and ubiquitous throughout each industrial model, boasting large front pockets and a detachable, padded strap.
