Acne Studios‘ creative director Jonny Johansson and Magnus Carlsson – a long-term friend of the designer and a fashion icon at large – go way back. After initially captivating Johansson with his aesthetic vision and eye-catching looks in the 1990s, Carlsson proved pivotal in the evolution of both Johansson’s vision and Acne Studios as a whole, contributing majorly to curating the atmosphere across Acne’s showrooms as well as the canteen and the library in the label’s Stockholm HQ, Floragatan 13. In a poignant visual tribute to Carlsson entitled My Friend Magnus, Johansson compiled a captivating range of over 200 of Carlsson’s outfits.
Carlsson is seen donning a selection of contemporary and archival pieces from Acne Studios, with each outfit accompanied by a detailed description of what he’s wearing. Italian fashion writer Angelo Flaccavento penned the book’s preface, honing in on the sociological impact of fashion. Take a closer look in the gallery above.
“Throughout the years, his vibrant personality, his taste in books and the references he would find have fuelled my inspiration and helped me in my work,” Johansson shared of Carlsson. “I wish for this book to give more people a glimpse of the flair that Magnus so effortlessly radiates in the lives of those who personally know him. This is not a volume meant to sit on one’s bookshelf; its purpose is to inspire and encourage others to push the boundaries of self-expression beyond trends, time and gender.”
My Friend Magnus is available now via Acne Studio’s webstore, as well as in selected Acne Studios Stores and Carlsson’s personal favorite bookstores throughout Stockholm, Paris, Tokyo, London, Berlin and New York.
