For its SS27 menswear collection, Acne Studios is looking to break the mold of the 9-to-5 uniform with an eclectic mixture of nostalgic styles, diverse fabric textures, playful color, and layered styling. Designer Jonny Johansson shared in an official statement, “Lately, I have been fascinated by individual expression at the office, which can function as a kind of everyday social experiment. There’s typically a push and pull tension when it comes to what people wear, but not necessarily in the ways you might expect.”
The looks are indeed experimental: a pair of plaid boxer-style shorts is worn with a prep-inspired jacket and brogue shoes, a neon orange Acne graphic tee peeks out from a traditional cable knit sweater, and a trompe l’oeil necktie t-shirt is worn with a blazer and skinny jeans. “For me, office life is the opposite of stiffness; I see it as a playground for my imagination, where I can subvert the codes of a wardrobe. What started as an exploration of different characters evolved into a harmonized, Acne Studios remix that captures the culture of the now,” the founding creative added.
Tapping into the brand’s heritage, signature 1996 and 1979 denim cuts make their way into the range, accompanied by slimmer silhouettes in bold colors and hybrid pleated jeans that echo slacks reminiscent of the 80s. Studded denim introduces a hint of 1950s rock’n'roll, clashing against mismatched argyle motifs and reclaimed, multi-layered micro jerseys.
The footwear and accessory lines are equally eclectic, featuring exaggerated cowboy boots in soft or croc-embossed leather, pointy Cuban-heeled ankle boots, and fringed Camero bags in gradient painted leather
