On September 26th, Bottega Veneta presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Milan Fashion Week, showcasing a more relaxed attitude in craft-forward details, intentional imperfection, and freedom — both physically and aesthetically. With her latest collection, Creative Director Louise Trotter distills the essence of “Summer beginning to bloom” through the lens of Bottega Veneta’s subtle but meticulous craftsmanship.
Against the stiffer shoulders and busier looks of Trotter’s Spring/Summer 2026, the latest collection allows “definition” around gender and “tailoring” to “loosen,” in the words of the show notes. Relating her approach to the gentler seasons experienced in Milan, Trotter delivers “light changes” to the wardrobe for warmer months: leather outerwear remains, as do wool trousers and sharply cut blazers. However, gone are the ultra-plush fiberglass furs of Spring/Summer 2026, and the hairy overcoats from Fall/Winter 2026. This season features lighter layers, less strict silhouettes, and endearing details like florals, crochet, and translucent fabrics.
One model wore a black trench coat with deconstructed sleeves and shoulders that freed the arms, while the collar of a black peacoat mutated into a light shoulder wrap on one side. There are also quite simple, everyday looks, with a poetic twist: a lived-in tan leather pant paired with a plain white long-sleeve top crowned by a lace collar, and white trousers were worn with a lustrous pearl-colored button-up that fused into a scarf hung around the neck. In the brand’s discreet style, most looks linger around monochromatic and black-and-white palettes, but a handful of numbers stood out in playful colors: a violet blazer with pink satin pants and a purple intrecciatto cap, floral skirts and dresses dominated by cascading fringe florals. Elsewhere, roomy leather dresses and coats were dyed in red burgundy.
The closing remarks of the show notes read, “There is optimism in lightness; in allowing the body, the clothes and perhaps oneself to move more freely. Summer as a proposition: to wear less, but feel more. To leave something open for the air to carry.” Whereas some brands have leaned into the intensity of SS27 with striking color and loud details, Trotter’s reads as a poem rooted in the quiet and gradual change of seasons.
