Having previously worked together on a trio of G-SHOCKs — all of which were instant sell-outs — Hodinkee and American singer-songwriter John Mayer are teaming up yet again, this time with the addition of Ed Sheeran.

This latest release is one part of a larger project, where Mayer will work with additional collaborators in an effort to help them realize their own G-SHOCK, in partnership with Hodinkee. Specifically, Mayer acts as the curator for the project, with each participant being connected to him via music, design, or watches.

The series is set to begin with the launch of the G-SHOCK Ref. 6900 – Subtract By Sheeran, followed by two other collaborative drops that have yet to be announced at the time of writing.

The design of Sheeran’s unique watch is heavily influenced by the artwork of his latest album sharing the same name, which marks the finale in his series of mathematically themed albums. Reflecting the album’s raw and genuine essence, the watch mirrors Sheeran’s expressive journey in its design.

Its case and strap feature a bold yellow resin, coupled with an abstract interpretation of Sheeran’s face on the dial, encapsulating the vibrant energy resonating through the Subtract album. Making its homage to the album all the more clear, a sketched subtraction sign adorns the dial at the 12 o’clock position, mirroring the Subtract album cover, with a medley of muted colors and iconic G-SHOCK “Triple Graph” display surrounded in yellow.

Not only does this watch carry the musical and artistic vibe of its creator but it also boasts of technical precision — with features like a 1/100th Stopwatch, a Countdown Timer and a Multi-Function Alarm, it marries functionality with artistry.

The watch is housed in G-SHOCK’s signature octagonal tin, presented with custom packaging artwork that mirrors that of the Subtract album’s aesthetic.

The G-SHOCK Ref. 6900 – Subtract By Ed Sheeran, in partnership with Hodinkee and John Mayer, is set to retail for $185 USD and will be available for purchase on October 18 at 11:00 am ET in the Hodinkee Shop.

For those interested, Hodinkee encourages signing up for early access to ensure a chance to own a piece of this limited edition release, symbolizing a blend of music, design and watch culture.
