Dingyun Zhang Readies the Blue Reflex Helmet Bag for a Limited Release
Inspired by the Inuit’s igloos as well as Bronze Age icons from Sanxingdui, China.
Emerging designer Dingyun Zhang will be dropping his avant-garde Blue Reflex Helmet Bag on his website later today. The bold accessory is an extension of Zhang’s Central Saint Martins’ graduate collection, centering on futuristic techwear aesthetics with alienesque oversized silhouettes
Arriving in an electric cerulean hue, the Blue Reflex Helmet Bag borrows its design influence from the Inuits’ igloos and Bronze Age icons excavated from the Sanxingdui archaeological site in China. Meanwhile, its inflated silhouette is described by Zhang as “a nod to the braggadocious heroes of our past: the oversized style of characters on street corners and MTV stars of 2000’s.“
Touted as “a functional piece to problem-solvers grinding through the rain or shine,” the Blue Reflex Helmet Bag can be worn as a tote bag, or converted into a backpack. For the straps, Zhang drew inspiration from parachutes, which he paired with detachable eye panels, complete with velcro and snap fasteners to ensure ease of use. Its interiors feature a nylon lining, where it’s equipped with two inner pockets with zip closures to safely stow away loose items.
Starting October 28, 12 p.m. EST, the Blue Reflex Helmet Bag will be available in a limited run of 100 examples via Dingyun Zhang’s online shop.
