RAINS FW23 Champions the Hero in Everyone

Creating warrior-like outerwear.

For Denmark-based lifestyle brand RAINS, outerwear is its golden ticket. Although the brand has reinterpreted outerwear for multiple seasons, its creations have remained rather minimal in design. But for the brand’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, it completely switched up its tempo – setting forth one of its moth forward-facing and exciting offerings to date.

Channeling one’s inner hero, the collection mirrored a selection of outerwear armor as opposed to traditional weather-focused people. But perhaps that is exactly where the magic was created. RAINS decided that bracing the elements can be an artful design experience as well. The entire collection took a more conceptual approach to design with puffer coats, parkas and full-length suits that harbored elongated silhouettes, oversized proportions and eye-catching fabric finishes. Nylon was of course a focal textile, but inserts of sherpa, mesh, cotton and spandex came into play as well.

Juxtaposing unorthodox outerwear with everyday garments, a cream-colored puffer with knee-length sleeves and an elongated neck was paired with a black floor-length slitted skirt with a mesh overlay. Then coming in full-warrior is a monochromatic electric yellow ensemble with a long puffer parka, matching puffer pants and a floor-hugging layered cape. Other militant looks that appeared in deep shades of green and technical camouflage were finished off with layered nylon scarves, sculptural neck pieces and ultra-thick gloves.

“Change is a common theme in our lives right now – like standing on shaky ground,” said Tanne Vinter, RAINS” head of design. “We can let it overwhelm us or search for the hero inside. The show and collection capture that hero energy, forward momentum, grounding, and positivity. It’s about taking on your uniform for whatever hero you need to be.”
