Muuto Rings in the New Year with Three New Products
Just in time to give your home a 2023 glow-up.
Danish brand Muuto has added three new pieces to its existing collection: a lounge chair, a portable lamp, and a coffee table. The new furniture and homeware pieces have been crafted by three external designers, each of whom have combined their own aesthetic with Muuto’s signature playful minimalism.
The Wrap lounge chair, designed by Paris-based Normal Studio, sees duvet-like upholstery draped over a steel frame. For Normal Studio, comfort was key – and the generous shape of the chair allows for different sitting positions, while the soft, cushiony fabric supports the body. “We were driven by the idea of creating a really snug chair with an enveloping feel and generous proportions that don’t feel chunky,” the studio adds.
For Johan van Hengel, the designer of the new Ease lamp, inspiration came in the form of tradition. The designer wanted to take a recognizable, archetypal lamp form, and bring it into the present day. Three levels of light and a totally portable design mean that the user can create an ambiance exactly to their liking. “I landed on the idea of the top and bottom barely touching,” the designer says. “This feature allows a large surface to emit light, while the flared bottom firmly stabilizes it.”
The last new piece to join the collection comes from Sylvain Willenz. Titled “Couple”, the coffee table is made from a durable stone-ceramic material upon a wooden frame. Available in three sizes, the piece also comes with two options for tabletop tiles – one plain, and the other more sculptural, with waves carved into its surface. “The Couple Coffee Table was born out of my research into this traditional and essential piece of furniture [the Tile Table]. I wanted to come up with a new yet subtle take on its materials and typology,” Willenz says. “I was inspired by the materiality of fired earth like brick and terracotta, finding that a beautiful synergy occurs when it is combined with wood.”
