Lil Yachty is riding high following the release of his new album Let’s Start Here, out today via Quality Control Music and Motown Records.

Throughout 2021 and 2022, the rapper was hard at work in the studio, building up to what would become the genre-bending LP. Yachty burst onto the scene circa 2016 with mumble raps such as “One Night,” and in the years following, continued to drop not-so-serious tracks like “Broccoli” and even last year’s “Poland.”

True to its title, Let’s Start Here ushers in a new start for Yachty, or at the very least, a level up in his music career. Fans may have doubted the rapper when he said he’d be dropping a “psychedelic rock” album but the end product is an elevated record that sees Yachty meticulously layer heartsick vocals over bass and guitar. He even throws in the occasional rap.

Along with the album, Yachty has shared a music video for the song “Say Something.” The visual opens with the rapper on a date with a woman in a diner sharing a plate of fries before Yachty utters the words, “I love you.”

Cue a montage of their relationship, from driving around in a vintage sports car to the birth of their first child. Turns out, it’s just a figment of Yachty’s imagination and his date isn’t feeling the same way, tell him that it’s been “two weeks.”
