New York City-based book publisher and lifestyle company Assouline has released a new photography book on the Paris Saint-Germain football club.

By photographer Julien Scussel, the book offers a closer look at the team via a range of never before seen photos and moments. What stands out about the book is that it is the product of six years of work by Scussel. This is the most access a photographer has ever had to the football club and its players – making for a truly unique documentation experience. The book includes stars like Beckham, Pelé, Ibrahimovic, Neymar Jr, Messi and more throughout their international experiences.

“But here the project is unique because of its artistic purpose. Some shots offer a close-up look, just like a painting. We can see the incredible details from big pictures. We think of Presnel Kimpembe’s face when he beckons to the supporters and shares his rage to win while we see his teammates celebrating the goal that was just scored behind him,” said the book’s narrator, David Foenkinos. “We can clearly feel that the photographer is driven by a constant quest for the ideal lighting, like great Renaissance painters. There is inspiration from Géricaultand Rembrandt in the use of chiaroscuro.”

Check out the gallery above for a look at the work. Limited to 1000 units, the book is available now online for $1,050 USD.
