Tesla’s Cybertruck Won’t Be Entering Production Until 2024

It looks like those eagerly awaiting the rollout of the Tesla Cybertruck will have to keep on holding out. The futuristic-looking truck was first unveiled in 2019, with Tesla saying that it planned to debut the vehicle on the market by the end of 2021.

That deadline was eventually pushed back to late 2022, though in March of that year, Tesla delayed production a third time, moving its planned start date to mid-2023.

Although Tesla has since been working steadily towards that goal – shipping out production equipment specific to the Cybertruck to its Gigafactory Texas headquarters – the release date for the vehicle has once again been pushed.

Speaking on the company’s recent Q4 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk responded to a question on if the Cybertruck would still be heading into production this year.

“We do expect production to start, I don’t know, maybe sometime this summer,” Musk answered. “But I always try to downplay the start of production because the start of production is always very slow. It increases exponentially, but it’s always very slow at first.”

“So I wouldn’t put too much thought in start of production. It’s kind of when does volume production actually happen, and that’s next year.”

It seems that Tesla is currently working on building out production lines but it’ll be a while before they start rolling out models of the Cybertruck. With Musk aiming for mass production next year, it’s safe to say that consumers won’t be getting behind the vehicle anytime soon.
