Update: Nike Says They Will Not Be Raising Dunk Prices
Refuting previous reports that said the popular model would see an extra $10 USD tacked on to its MSRP.
UPDATE: Following last week’s request for comment, a Nike spokesperson has informed HYPEBEAST that the brand does not plan to increase prices for Dunk models.
Since Nike reintroduced the Dunk in March 2020, it’s grown to become one of the most popular models in the Nike Sportswear lineup. Now, it’s been rumored that all models of the Dunk will see a $10 USD price jump beginning next quarter. Sneaker insider @brandon1an has stated he’s heard from multiple retailers that the Dunk Low, Dunk High and all SE (special edition) Dunks will be affected by the jump, meaning that the box price of the Low will rise from $110 to $120, the High will increase from $120 to $130 and all special editions will have an extra $10 USD tacked on to their total as well. This isn’t the first Dunk price increase either: MSRPs were raised $10 USD across the board at the top of 2022.
Though some Dunk devotees may conclude that the model’s price increase is Nike leveraging the popularity of the silhouette to add to their profit margins, the real logic behind the jump in price is likely much more complicated. Like so many other industries, the sneaker industry has been battered by inflation since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with the cost of raw materials and transportation skyrocketing to never-before-seen levels. Supply chain issues are a continued challenge as well, and Nike is also in the middle of a seismic shift in how they sell their product as they’ve been moving towards a much more DTC-focused business model.
A Nike spokesperson informed HYPEBEAST that they do not have a comment on the reported price increase at the time. However, more info on the situation is likely to surface soon.
