Seiko Prospex Aurora Limited Edition Lights Up The Sky

Seiko is channeling the Northern Lights with the colourful gradient dial of its latest dive watch.
The Prospex 1970 Mechanical Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation Limited Edition SLA063 uses a ‘delicate textured dial and subtle color gradation’ to represent the Aurora Borealis lights seen in polar skies.
The watch itself is a modern reworking of the model worn by Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura – the first person to summit the highest mountains on five continents – on a solo 12,500km dog-sled run from Greenland to Alaska from 1974 to 1976.
Seiko mixes satin-brushed surfaces with polished lines across the stainless steel case and bracelet – treated to Seiko’s mysterious ‘super hard’ coating – to accentuate the watch’s silhouette, while pairing the dial with a muted blue dive bezel. The sapphire crystal features a dual curve and anti-reflective coating on the inside for maximum legibility.
The watch is water resistant to 200m and features Seiko’s automatic Caliber 8L35 and is supplied with a silicone strap featuring the same ‘train track’ pattern found on the 1970s original.
The 500-piece Seiko Prospex SLA063 limited edition drops in November priced $3,100 USD via Seiko or £2,740 GBP via Seiko in the UK.
