The Brooklyn Museum and Off-White™ Launch "Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech"-Inspired Collection
A salute to Virgil Abloh’s life and legacy, debuting at the “Figures Of Speech” exhibit’s “Church and State” merch store.
As Virgil Abloh: Figures Of Speech continues its six-month run at the Brooklyn Museum, Off-White™ has teamed with the museum for a special collection inspired by the exhibition’s themes and key pieces. Debuting at the exhibition’s shop “Church & State” — whose name is a play on the synergy between art and commerce — the offerings include couture smoking jackets, street-ready tees and hoodies, artistic purses and even accessories like clocks and prints.
The smoking jackets are made in Italy, and arrive in either a stark black or a striking checkered pattern. Each is covered in outsize text and diagrams that nod to the exhibition’s artworks and items, while hoodies and tees feature spray-effect iterations of Off-White™’s famous “arrow” graphic. A quartet of bags is present as well. There’s one tote-size bag and three handbags that repurpose signature Off-White™ motifs like lines and checkers, including one that displays Virgil Abloh’s architectural drawing of SOCIAL SCULPTURE, a giant wooden structure that’s one of the exhibit’s main highlights. Last but not least is a tabletop flip clock that nods to the inspirations behind the collection, and a full-size print of Abloh’s aforementioned drawing.
Expect the Brooklyn Museum x Off-White™ collection to roll out at a special event in the museum on September 15 that’s open to the public from 7-10 PM EST. It’ll arrive on the Brooklyn Museum webstore and Off-White™ flagship locations a day later on September 16.
